NAMI Kingsport

September 9
7:00 pm
First Baptist Church Kingsport
The National Alliance on Mental Illness(NAMI) of Kingsport meets on the first Thursday of the month. Bridges Support Group for consumers and With Hope in Mind Support Group for families will meet. The support group is made up of friends and family of people with long-term mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, eating disorders and other illnesses. Members come together to support each other, learn more, educate the community and advocate for change in the mental health system. NAMI Kingsport meetings are open to family members, friends or professionals who know firsthand the challenges that mental illness presents. NAMI helps families know they are not alone, and offers education, understanding, support and most of all hope.

Membership is never required to attend a NAMI affiliate meeting, however membership offers informative national, state and local newsletters. Classes are available to family members to help them better understand various mental illnesses, as well as medications, coping skills, communication skills and hope for a brighter future. All classes are free to the public, with materials being provided through a grant from the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.
