   Sometimes families need a helping hand to get back on their feet. Often that first step is difficult, but FOOTHOLDS is available to help families take a step in the right direction.

   FOOTHOLDS is a home-based family advancement program for Lee, Scott and Wise counties and the City of Norton. The program provides children and their caregivers the support necessary to get back on the right path.

   FOOTHOLDS works in cooperation with a variety of programs throughout Southwest Virginia to ensure children, their caregiver and families receive the services and support they need.   

    Together with local families, FOOTHOLDS is securing a bright future for the families of Southwest Virginia.

FOOTHOLDS works one-on-one with children and their families to build a healthy family environment. The program utilizes a variety of services to achieve this goal, including:

 

  • Identifying obstacles for family advancement
  • Increasing family communication skills
  • Aiding caregivers and families in structuring a positive home environment
  • Linking the child and caregiver with appropriate resources
  • Assisting the child in developing social skills
  • Providing the child with needed support and guidance to assist them in obtaining positive social outlets
  • Educating caregivers about the developmental needs of the child


Who is Eligible?

    Footholds serves children from birth to age 17 in the counties of Lee, Scott and Wise and the City of Norton. In addition, a child must meet one or more of the following eligibility requirements:

  • The child is experiencing emotional
    difficulties or substance abuse problems
  • The caregiver is experiencing emotional
    difficulties or substance abuse problems
    that impact the child and family functioning
  • The caregiver needs to access resources to assist the family in meeting the child's
    developing needs
  • The caregiver needs support and
    intervention for further advancement of
    the family
  • The family needs assistance in creating a
    support system
