Voluntary Mental Health Unit

The CSU is a voluntary mental health unit for adults 18 and older who are experiencing a mental health emergency. It’s a 15-Bed Short-Stay residential facility with mental health staff available 24/7 who monitor the needs of individuals for a minimum of 72 hours. The focus is for people with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness, who are in need of stabilization, but are not a danger to themselves or others, and those diagnosed with both a psychiatric disorder and co-occurring substance use disorder.

The CSU provides Initial Screening and Assessment through Crisis Services & Triage. Crisis staff works with the individual to decide what level of care best meets their needs. Available options include the CSU, Outpatient, and Detoxification / Residential Substance Abuse Treatment

The CSU receives funding from the Tennessee Department of Mental Health.

The CSU provides Short-Term, Crisis-Focused Intervention & Medication Evaluation. Psychiatric assessments:

  • Health needs assessments
  • Medication reviews, monitoring
  • Individual, group and family treatment
  • Close, supportive supervision
  • Identification of community resources for support
  • Treatment and placement recommendations
