Arc of LENOWISCO

   Second Tuesday of the Month

The Arc of LENOWISCO is a regional organization formed to provide support, advocacy, education, and community awareness for individuals with disabilities and special needs, their families, and other people involved in their care. Training is offered on various topics of interest to within the community. The organization also advocates with local and state legislators to increase services in the region. The Arc of LENOWISCO serves individuals in Wise, Lee, and Scott counties and the City of Norton. The Arc meets on the second Tuesday of December, March, June, and September at 6:00 p.m. at various locations. For respite or childcare arrangements, please call one week prior. Down Syndrome Support Group

Down Syndrome Support Group is for people impacted by Down Syndrome. For more information, call (423) 844-4210.

Federation of Families Support Group

   Monthly
Federation of Families meets monthly in Lee, Scott and Wise Counties to provide support and education for families dealing with the challenges of raising a child with emotional, behavioral, or mental health issues. In-Fuze Support Group

  Lee County Behavioral Health Services

Support group members will learn the signs and symptoms of substance abuse; what to expect in the recovery process; and how substance abuse and dependence affects mental, physical, and spiritual development. The group will teach how to encourage recovery, about relapse and how to help maintain recovery, and will show family members how to care for themselves during their loved one's recovery process. Lee County Foster Parent Support Group  TBD

Lee County Suicide Prevention Coalition

   4th Thursday

The Suicide Prevention Coalition, formed to raise awareness and determine the available resources in the Lee County community for suicide survivors, will meet the fourth Thursday of every month. LENOWISCO Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition

The regional coalition is working to coordinate suicide prevention efforts in local communities. The regional coalition meets quarterly in February, May, August, and November). For more information on upcoming meetings, call (276) 523-8300.

Moral Reconation Therapy Group
   Wednesdays
   2-4 p.m.
   Wise County Behavioral Health Services
A Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Group meets each Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. The group will be ongoing and juveniles ages 13-17 may join any time. Call (276) 523-8370 to register. MRT is a group designed to help juveniles on probation or who have a criminal or substance abuse history to make good choices by doing what is right.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Bristol

Membership is never required to attend a NAMI affiliate meeting, however membership offers informative national, state and local newsletters. Classes are available to family members to help them better understand various mental illnesses, as well as medications, coping skills, communication skills and hope for a brighter future. All classes are free to the public, with materials being provided through a grant from the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. For more information, call (423) 282-8844.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Kingsport

NAMI of Sullivan County meetings are open to family members, friends or professionals who know firsthand the challenges that mental illness presents. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Washington County

Journey of Hope is open to family members and friends of those who suffer from a neurobiological brain disease. Bridges Support Group meets with Journey of Hope before breaking off into a separate meeting. It is for mental health consumers of all diagnoses. For more information, call (423) 543-4315.

Parenting Classes

Free parenting classes for parents and guardians of children age 5 and under are offered every Wednesday from 10 to Noon for parents in Lee, Scott, Wise counties and the City of Norton. Siblings are welcome to attend any class. Call to schedule at (276) 523-8376.

Frontier Health and PD1 offers a program for parents of teen-agers in Lee, Scott and Wise counties and the city of Norton on Monday mornings from 9 to 10:30. There is no charge. Pre-registration is requested. 1-888-443-1804.

SAMSON Support Group

SAMSON Support Group for people with addictions meets weekly on Mondays. SAMSON, or Steps and More Strength Overcoming Narcotics, helps individuals face everyday life situations, overcome their addictions and create purpose through a step process, education, life skills training and most important, unconditional love. Scott County Suicide Prevention Coalition

The coalition is working to raise awareness on the issue of suicide and to find out more about available resources in the Scott County community for suicide survivors. Anyone interested in helping support this cause or wishing to attend meetings, please call at (276) 431-4370.

Survivors of Suicide Support Group - Tennessee

SOS is for individuals who have lost someone by suicide, or for individuals who are interested in suicide prevention or who might have helpful information for those who do. The group meets the 4th Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Call Dorothy Gregory for more information, 423-224-1300.

Survivors of Suicide Support Group - Virginia

A support group for Survivors of Suicide is being held every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month beginning at 6 p.m. The group meets in the Medical Plaza West Wing classroom. For more information contact Bill Russell at (276)346-1641.

Total Home Care Hospice Grief Support

   Wednesdays

   3 p.m.

   Norton Community Hospital

Total Home Care Hospice offers a support group for anyone in the community who's dealing with grief surrounding the loss of a loved one. Meets in the day room from 3 to 4 p.m. Call 1-800-424-6682 for more information. Meetings are facilitated by social worker Teresa Greene.

Victims of Domestic Violence Support Group

A parent support group for families who have experienced the death of a baby is held every quarter. The next meetings for 2007 are April 24, July 31 and Oct. 30. Call (276) 423-8641.

Wise County Suicide Prevention
