Frontier Health Observes Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Sep 9, 2025 | News

Gray, TN — This September, Frontier Health is proud to join organizations across the nation in recognizing Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Our mission is to inform, educate, and increase awareness about suicide prevention while reminding our community that hope and help are always available.

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone—regardless of age, gender, or background—and they should never be dismissed as normal emotions. Suicide Prevention Week will be observed from September 7–13, 2025, culminating in World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI):

  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10–14 and the third leading cause for individuals ages 15–24 in the U.S.
  • Overall, suicide ranks as the 12th leading cause of death nationwide.
  • Nearly 79% of people who die by suicide are male, though women attempt suicide at higher rates.
  • 46% of those who die by suicide had a diagnosed mental health condition, while research suggests that up to 90% experienced symptoms of one.

Help is always within reach. Frontier Health supports the nationwide 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available by call or text. Individuals in crisis can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Frontier Health offers immediate in-person support at Turning Point, our 24-hour emergency walk-in center located at 208 E. Unaka Avenue in Johnson City. Trained professionals are always available to listen and provide compassionate care.

“At Frontier Health, we believe suicide prevention starts with open and honest conversations. We are here to provide caring and compassionate staff, ready to  listen and provide needed support. Never hesitate to reach out for yourself, a friend or a loved one who is struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide. “ – Sherri Feathers, Sr VP of Specialty Services

For decades, Frontier Health has helped children, teens, and adults find hope and healing. Talking about suicide saves lives—because when we share our thoughts and feelings, we realize we are not alone. Suicide is not the solution. Life is.

This September, join us in raising awareness, fighting stigma, and spreading hope during National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Together, we can make a difference.
