Frontier Health Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month, Encourages Community to Seek Support
Johnson City, TN— Each May, Frontier Health joins organizations across the country in recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging individuals to seek help when needed.
Over the past year, the need for mental health services has continued to grow. Mental health plays a vital role in how people think, feel, and act, and it influences how individuals handle stress, relate to others, and make decisions. It is essential at every stage of life, from childhood through adulthood, and directly impacts emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
Frontier Health is committed to shedding light on the stigma surrounding mental health and ensuring that individuals and families know help is available. Recognizing the warning signs of mental health challenges is an important step in seeking support. These may include:
- Hearing voices
- Thinking of harming yourself or others
- Eating or sleeping too much or too little
- Feeling unusually confused, forgetful, angry, worried, or scared
- Withdrawing from friends, family, or usual activities
- Experiencing low or no energy
- Feeling numb or as if nothing matters
- Having unexplained aches and pains
- Feeling helpless or hopeless
- Increasing use of substances such as alcohol or drugs
If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Individuals can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, to connect with trained counselors 24/7 for free and confidential support.
“During Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that mental health is just as important as physical health,” said Frontier Health Chief Operating Officer Diane Bowen. “Every day, we see the impact that access to compassionate, high-quality behavioral health care can have on individuals and families across our region. We encourage anyone who may be struggling to reach out for support, because seeking help is a sign of strength, and recovery is always possible.” – Diane Bowen, SR VP of Operations
